Southern Chile Curiosities
Some of the oldest vineyards in Chile are found in the Maule and Itata Valleys in southern Chile, where old vines and unusual grape varieties are now being made into excellent wines in small wineries by dedicated winemakers.
1 x Maturana Naranjo, 2018 (Orange Wine) – A fascinating aromatic “orange” wine – ideal as an aperitif – made from the Torontel grape variety in the Maule Valley.
1 x La Gringa, 2017 (White) – An elegant and fresh Moscatel from the Itata Valley in southern Chile.
1 x Bouchon Pais Salvaje, 2018 (White) – A curious and delicious white wine made from 150-year old Pais vines that grow wild through the trees in the Mingre region of Maule. The grapes have to be harvested by hand using ladders to reach the vines!
1 x Garage Wine Co Old Vine Pale, 2018 (Rosé) – a delightful and complex rosé made at a boutique winery in the Maule Valley from a blend of Carignan and Mataro grapes.
1 x Montes, Outer Limits, 2017 (Red) – bright ruby in colour this excellent Cinsault comes from an old vines growing in Guarilihue, Itata.
1 x Morande Adventure, Vigno, 2016 (Red) – this superb Carignan from the Santa Elena Elena Estate in the Loncomilla Valley in Maule offers .
